The Wedding Newsletter at The Special Event

January 31, 2013, 12:44 PM EST

This past week, Alexander Lilly Events' email marketing company The Wedding Newsletter had the pleasure of attending The Special Event in Chicago. The Special Event Ambassadors Frank Andonoplas of Frank Event Design and Audrey Gordon of Audrey Gordon Parties, Ltd. orchestrated such an incredible conference that we never wanted to leave! It was a truly rewarding experience. We met wonderful people, attended amazing parties, and saw some breathtaking exhibits and performances. Here are some of our highlights from the week...

The ABC Mix & Mingle
Jane Skarosi, the Illinois State Coordinator for ABC, sure knows how to show her chapter a good time! Great appetizers, great wine, and as always with ABC, great company! Michael O'Dea from O'Dea Entertainment set the tone right with an excellent DJ set (and lots of punny jokes) to get our crowd in the mingling mood.

Dinner with Alan Berg
Everyone knows Alan Berg as a renaissance man: he's an author, an inspirational speaker, a business consultant, a website mechanic, and an encyclopedia of wedding expertise. But the real treat for us was ordering some sliders and getting to know Alan as a man who, deep down, is simply a hopeless romantic with a million endearing, romantic, hilarious stories about his wife and his own marriage. The Hyatt's pulled pork sliders weren't so bad either.

The Opening Night Celebration
Do these people know how to throw a party! Thanks to the TSE Ambassadors, the Event Chairs Gwendolyn Y. McNutt, CSEP of Comcast, and Jack Scafide of Cort Event Furnishings, the Skyline Loft, and the Bridgeport Empire, this party was hands-down the coolest, chicest, most impressive event imaginable. But don't take our word for it: take a look at some of the great pictures we took!
A DJ in the freight elevator? Only at The Special Event Opening Night Party!
What a great entryway to the Skyline Loft.
Kristen Ritter and Charlotte Y. Barnes at the Opening Night Party.

Life Art capturing the crowd!
Great seating and decor thanks to Cort Furnishing.
The dance floor was rocking!
Even the bar was beautifully decorated.

The Exhibit Hall
Every single company that showcased at The Special Event brought their A-game. So many of the exhibit tables were just unreal. Backdrops Beautiful provided a backdrop of the Chicago skyline that was practically to scale. Everflora turned an entire wall into a labyrinth of flowers. The Canvas Nursery had decor remnant of scenery from Alice in Wonderland. But one of our most favorite aspects of the exhibit hall were the fun live performances! David Rothstein Music killed it on stage with an 11-piece performance. The Three Waiters tricked us into thinking they were working the event only to surprise us with booming opera solos. And the Lisa Rene Band brought down the house with a soulful Adele cover. See more of our favorites exhibits below!

The SEARCH Fundraiser
The SEARCH Foundation is a terrific charity: they raise money for professionals in the wedding industry who have suffered tragic events. In this case, the SEARCH Foundation was auctioning off cool prizes, like trips to New York and original Michael Jackson lyric sheets signed by the King of Pop himself, to raise money for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The best part: they raised over $50,000! To celebrate, the crowd came together to have a dance-off.
Garrett's cheese and carmel popcorn was a tasty table treat at the SEARCH fundraiser.
